Five Moving Tips When You Have Pets
You've decided to relocate to a better subdivision, and the stress of moving is starting to get to you. There is so much to do during this time, and many homeowners mistakenly neglect their pets. Don't be one of them! Here are five things that every pet owner should know about moving with pets.
Does Your Cat's Identification or Vaccinations Need to Be Updated?
This tip is something that can be done well in advance of the move, and it is very neccessary. The best thing to to is schedule a day of it; go to the vet, get the shots you need, and update the tag or chip all in one afternoon. Make sure your cell phone is listed in the ID tag. That way if something happens, you will always be reached. If your pet and you part ways, you can be found even if your landline has been disconnected.
Turn the Moving Day into a Moving Week.
Generally speaking, pets don't like change. They sense when change is happening, and it can make them very nervous when it happens too quickly. Therefore, begin the process of packing your things well in advance of your moving day. Don't be worried if your pet investigates the various boxes and things. He is just trying to find out what is going on. Be sure to leave their things like the bed or toys out for their reassurance and enjoyment as long as possible. Pet owners will often take a small trip to the new subdivision with their pet. That way they can explore the scents and new sights before they move in. You should never let go of the leash. The worst thing is a lost pet in a brand new neighborhood.
Make Sure All the Paperwork is Straight.

So in their bedding material, place one of your shirts so that the new place will smell more like home. heaThe best thing to do when you are moving boxes into your new dream home is to leave the dog secure in the crate with some chew toys. Once all the moving is done, you can open the crate and let them out. The rest of the day should be spent interacting with your dog or cat in some way. With a little effort on your part, they will realize that this is their new and safe living space. Remember though, this is a new environment, so don't be largely disappointed if they split their time between you and exploring the house.
